Trade linkages between British India and Tibet through the passes of Sikkim dates back to the late 18th Century. It was the report written by john Edgar the Deputy Commissioner in Darjeeling in 1873 that really captured the attention of the British India Government with regard to the great strategic and commercial potentials of this route in Sikkim. The Later half of the 1890s, witnessed a fairly good trade of British India with Tibet through Sikkim passes as highlighted by the extract of the diary of the Political Officer for Sikkim. The diary extract of the 16th January 1898 states, "The trade for December are very good, amounting to Rs 3,41,290. This includes a consignment of Gold worth Rs. 16,800- the finest that has been sent in for some years." The adventurous younghusband Mission launched from Sikkim with a military escort (1903-04) accomplished its task of reaching Lhasa thereby leading to 1904 Convention that firmed up the Anglo-Tibet trade. This is plan for a jeep safari for a memorable trip to the mesmerizing corner of India – the ancient Silk Route, which used to connect Lhasa in Tibet via the Jelep La Pass to India and onward to the rest of the world. Even now most of the route is restricted area due its international boundary with China (Tibet) and the route is controlled by the Indian Army named as - “Cloud Warriors”.

It has also beautiful views of snow clad mountain and peaks. Upper, part of Ravangla experiences snowfall during winter. Namchi is situated at an altitude of 1,675 m (5500 feet) above sea level. Namchi lies off the road between Melli and Jorethang. Namchi commands panoramic view of the snow capped mountains and vast stretches of valley. It is also headquarters of South district. The area is fast growing into a tourist destination with its enormous potential for all round tourist activities.

Okhrey is a small village situated in West Sikkim district, on the way of Varsey which is called the valley of rhododendrons. This trail is ablaze with a riot of colors during March and April created by many species of rhododendrons blooming across the valley (almost 104 sq. km spread). The dense forest of this area is covered with hemlocks, silver firs, magnolia and rhododendron trees and bushes. Uttarey is a small village near Nepal Border in West Sikkim Altitude - 7800ft. Besides Uttarey is take up point for trekking to Singalila Range which is one of the noted trekking sites in west Sikkim. Defence and SSB Branches are there in Uttarey. After crossing Singshore Bridge, (Second highest gorge bridge in Asia) approx 10 KMs you can reach Uttarey, a beautiful Landscape View. Surrounded by mountains and green valleys the magnificent views of Rinchenpong, at an attitude of 5,500 ft. are as fascinating as other great tourist spots. Here all around dwells the unspoilt mountain charm.
