The area of Dooars Consist with Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, Jaldapara National Park, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jayanti, Jhalong-Bindu, Samsing-Rocky Island, Todey-Tangta, Paren, Suntalekhola, Chilapata etc. It lies in the Himalayan foothills and has great natural beauty. Much of these forest is moist deciduous and sal (shorea robusta) is the most common and valuable tree. Teak, Simul, Siris, Khair are also found here. These park is rich in large herbivores including Indian Rhinoceros, Bisons, Gaur, Asian Elephant, Sloth Bear, Chital, barking Deer, Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Pangolin etc. These National Park are famous for its bird population - which includes brilliant submontane forest birds like the Green Magpie, Indian Treepie , Hill Myna, Scarlet Minivet, Sunbird, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Spangled Drongo and Great Indian Hornbill, Large Grey Headed Fishing Eagle, Adjutant Stork, Peafowl, Green pigeon. In winter you can find out various migratory birds like Brahminy, Teals, etc. An elephant or a jeep safari can provide you an opportunity to have a closer view of this wild species. But from June to mid September this safari remain close for rainfalls. Lataguri derives its name from ‘Lata’ means “Wood’ as the place is situated in the midst of dense forest and lush grassland in Dooars. Permits for entering Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary are given from here.
